“Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.” – Isaiah 55:3

Comment: David, the eight son of Jesse was anointed to be King by God through the prophet Samuel in place of rebellious Saul of Kish (1 Samuel 16:1-13). After the death of Saul, David was made King of Israel (2 Samuel 5:1-3). David during his life time was a man after God’s heart. He exhibited love, faith, compassion, strength, kindness, humility and geninue repentance throughout his life as King. On two occasions he sinned grievously against God but he repented profusely and never repeated such evil acts anymore. First, was when he coveted Uriah’s wife and caused her husband to be killed and the second was when he took census of the nation of Israel against the will of God (2 Samuel 11; 12; 2 Samuel 24; 2 Chronicles 21). But his contrite and repentant heart endowed him to God who established his throne and made a covenant with him which fulfilled on his seed Jesus Christ through whom all that have faith in Jesus will obtain Salvation. – 2 Samuel 7:8; Psalm 89:28-37; Isaiah 55:1-3; Matthew 11:28,29; Luke 1:32,33; Acts 13:16-39; etc.

The sure mercies of David, therefore, is the everlasting covenant of Salvation God shall make with anyone who show faith in Jesus Christ by giving heed to the truth with love and geninue repentance of his sins. Such ones reconciles with God. God perfected this through the first advent and ransom sacrifice Jesus Christ the seed of David, the Saviour made for the remission of sinful mankind so that whoever believes in him would not perish but have everlasting life. – John 3:16; see also Ezekiel 34:23-31; John 10:10; Luke 24:47; etc.

Those who make this covenant with God are born again and dead to sin. Such ones are true disciples, converts, born again or new creatures, old things have passed away, all things have become new. And as long as they continue in the truth, God’s protection, peace, blessings and life they shall receive by God’s grace and power now and in God’s Kingdom fully established in the world to come. – Luke 18:28-30; John 8:31,32,36; Roman 6:6,7; 2 Corinthians 5:17-20; 1 Peter 1:21-23; etc.

Prayer: O God our heavenly Father! Blessed be Thine Holy Name. We thank Thee for Thy infinite love and care we enjoy daily. Help us to accept the truth, exercise faith, love, repentance and reconcile with Thee to obtain the sure mercies of David in Jesus name. Amen.
