“The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner. This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.” – Psalm 118:22-23
Comment: The builders represent the unbelieving Jews such as the chief priests and Pharisees who refuse or reject and oppose Jesus Christ, the stone. The building is the Kingdom of God while the stone is Jesus Christ who is the head of the corner.
St. Peter confirmed to the priests and the elders of the Jews that Jesus Christ was the stone they the builders rejected and stated further thus: “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” – Acts 4:10-12
St. Paul clearly informed Christians that the Church foundation is laid on the Apostles, but that Jesus Christ is the “Chief Cornerstone” – Ephesians 2:19-20.
True disciples of Christ offer spiritual sacrifices to God through Jesus Christ, the rejected yet precious cornerstone. Believers find value in him, but to the disobedient, he is a stumbling block and a rock of offence because of their disobedience, fulfilling scripture (1 Peter 2:4-8).
Therefore, rejecting the Chief Cornerstone is to be disobedient to the truth or the word of God which will surely lead to punishment and destruction at the coming great tribulation and battle of Armageddon.
Prayer: Our God and Father in heaven. Help us to remain obedient to the Truth and not to reject Jesus Christ, the Chief Cornerstone for our blessings and salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord . Amen.
