“To whom will ye liken me, and make me equal, and compare me, that we may be like?” – Isaiah 46:5
Comment: The ancient Jews were rebellious, despite God’s wonders showing His love and care. They were easily swayed by worldly desires. King Ahab of Israel married Jezebel, who brought Baal worship and 450 prophets. As a weak leader (effeminate), Ahab let Jezebel control his actions and the nation. This led to a conflict: should they worship God Almighty or Baal?
King Ahab accused Elijah of troubling Israel, but Elijah replied that Ahab was the one causing trouble. Elijah proposed a contest on Mt. Carmel to decide who should be worshipped: God Almighty or Baal. He challenged the 450 prophets of Baal to a sacrifice, saying, “Let’s see whose God answers with fire.” The prophets of Baal prayed from morning to evening, but nothing happened. – 1 Kings 18:21-29.
Elijah, before the time of the evening sacrifice rebuilt the altar, dug trenches, and filled them with water. He prayed to God, and fire came down from heaven, consuming everything, including the water and stones. The people fell on their faces, declaring, “The LORD, He is God!” (1 Kings 18:39). Similar miracles occurred with Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego (Daniel 3:27-29), and Daniel (Daniel 6:25-28).
God Almighty Jehovah indeed is a God of wonders. Great wonders indeed. Worship Him.
Prayer: O God of all perfect creations. Our Father in heaven. Thee only shall all men worship because there is none like Thee. I bow to serve Thee continually through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
