NEVER FORGET THE BENEFITS OF GOD
“Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.” – Psalm 103:1-5.
Comment: King David spoke to himself to bless the LORD and not to forget all His benefits or blessings. Probably he said this because human beings tend to easily forget the benefits of the LORD. In their ingratitude, they sometimes take credit for the benefits of the LORD. The story of King Herod is a great example. “Immediately, because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died. Acts 12:23 New Living Translation.
When you call to mind all the benefits He bestowed on you, it helps you to praise him excitedly. Forgetting the benefits of God hardens you towards God, but a remembrance of His benefits propels us into praising him.
“…Who healeth all thy diseases”;
this is another benefit to bless God for.
We don’t know the value of health until we fall sick. When you are sick, everything of concern loses value. For the health that you enjoy why don’t you bless God. What we may have as possessions in this world, one troublesome sickness can dissolve it in a matter of moments.
Remember, the benefits of the LORD are not rights; they are the kindnesses, gifts and favour of the LORD. In the text under reference, David remembered and listed the benefits of the LORD, which certainly were not exhaustive. He was grateful.
BE GRATEFUL TO GOD FOR EVERYTHING IN YOUR LIFE.
Prayer: Father, we bless and hallow thy great name for your marvelous acts and uncountable benefits we taste from thee daily. May we never forget all you have done and continue to do in our lives in Jesus’ name. Amen.
