CONTENTMENT
‘But Godliness with contentment is great gain” 1 Timothy 6:6.
Comment: Contentment is a virtue that arises from a deep trust in God’s sovereignty and provision. In Philippians 4:11-13, St. Paul writes that he has learned to be content in all circumstances, whether in abundance or in need, because he knows that God Almighty is his sufficiency. This contentment is not based on external circumstances but on an internal confidence in God’s goodness and love. The Bible teaches that contentment is a fruit of gratitude and a recognition of God’s blessings in our lives (1 Thessalonians 5:18).
Ultimately, contentment is a reflection of our trust in God’s goodness and love. In Psalm 23:1-6, King David writes that the Lord is his shepherd, and he shall lack nothing, because God provides for all his needs. This psalm expresses a deep trust in God’s care and provision, which is the foundation of contentment. When we trust in God’s goodness and love, we can rest in His provision and find contentment in all circumstances, knowing that He is our sufficiency and our God.
Beloved, be content with what God has provided for you, your blessing is sure by His grace.
*Prayer* O God our Father is Heaven, help us to be satisfied with your goodness always and may Your blessings be on us all the days of our lives through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen!
