BEWARE OF DESPISERS IN GOD’S SERVICE!
“Seeing thou hatest instruction, and castest my words behind thee.” – Psalm 50:17
*Comment:* A Despiser is someone who disregards and disrespects God and His truth. They scorn and pretend, refusing to listen. As Jeremiah 6:10 states, they are unmoved by the word of God, finding it repellent and taking no delight in it.
God Almighty has promised woe to all those who despise or scorn His word. Stated Isaiah, “Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight! ….Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble, and the flame consumeth the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: because they have cast away the law of the Lord of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.” – Isaiah 5:21-24
In the days of prophet Zechariah, the people of Judah disregarded God’s commands, refusing to show mercy, justice, and compassion to the vulnerable (Zechariah 7:8-12). They deliberately ignored God’s words, hardening their hearts, which led to severe consequences and God’s wrath.
Jesus Christ also criticised the Pharisees and Scribes for their “making the word of God of none effect through your (their) tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.” – Mark 7:13.
The true worshippers of God should prioritize keeping His commandments. The Psalmist expressed his love for God’s laws, valuing them above gold and rejoicing in His word (Psalm 119:72, 127, 162-167). He found peace and stability in loving and obeying God’s laws.
Be cautious of those who scorn the truth and seek advice from the ungodly. Psalm 1:1-3 warns against following their counsel, instead delighting in God’s law and meditating on it day and night, resulting in prosperity and spiritual growth.
*Prayer:* The Great, I AM THAT I AM, JEHOVAH, GOD OF OUR FATHERS! We praise and glorify Your Holy name. To despise Thy word is to invoked Thy wrath upon us. We pray Thee Father to help us to always show reverence to Thee and Thy words of truth and righteousness so that we may prosper through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
