THE BREATH OF LIFE!
“All the while my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils” – Job 27:3
*Comment:* Recently, a friend remarked that a loved one who died had “transited”. This is the belief of many people in the world. So that instead of saying a person has died. They will say the person has passed on to the great beyond or spirit world or heaven to be with God. Giving the impression that the person has not surely died. This was the deceit given by the devil to Eve that led her to eat the forbidden fruit. Genesis 3:5,6. These views are not the reality, they are just people’s imaginations.
The truth is this: once a soul or person loses the breath of life he or she dies. That is he/she becomes a dead soul or person. It is written: “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” (Genesis 2:7). The breath of life is the Spirit of God in everyone’s nostrils(Job 27:3). The soul is the person or human being living or alive.
Once the breath of life or the invisible force of God infused into the nostrils leaves one, he or she is dead, lifeless and returns to the dust of the ground. Pronouncing judgement on Adam, God said, “In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.” (Genesis 3:19). When a person dies, he or she goes back to the dust of the earth or the grave and nowhere else.
King Solomon stated, “For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.” – Ecclesiastes 9:5-6
It is not true that the spirit or the breath of life that leaves man at death is able or continues to be alive, to see, reason, speak or possess any power or senses. It is not a living thing that leaves man at death.. It is the spirit of God in our nostrils whereby we breathe in and out to live. King Solomon explains what happens after death, “Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit (breath of life) shall return unto God who gave it. Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity.” – Ecclesiastes 12:7-8. No Transition. There is however, the hope of Resurrection. – 1 Thessalonians 4:13,14,18.
*Prayer:* O God our heavenly Father. We thank Thee for giving us this knowledge and understanding about the dead. Help us to do Your Will faithfully till the end to obtain Eternal Life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
