HUMILITY
Text: James 4:6 KJV
“But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble”
Comments: Humility is a virtue required of true disciples of Christ. In everything we do and wherever we live, we should be humble and eschew pride. Proverbs 16:18 says that “pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall”. But Humility on the other hand, brings “riches, honour and life” (Prov 22:4). God Almighty hates pride and resists the proud (James 4:6; Prov 6:16-17; Matt 23:12; Luke14:11).
The story of the Pharisee and Publican is a striking example. While the Pharisee displayed a high level of pride in his utterance, the Publican showed humility and Jesus Christ concluded that. “…..for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.” – Luke 18:10-14.
Our Lord and master Jesus Christ is the very embodiment of humility (Matt 11:28-30; Philippians 2:3-11). Let us therefore, as followers of Christ, be humble no matter our status, circumstances or where we find ourselves in life.
Prayer: May God Almighty continue to help us to humble ourselves under His mighty hands and exalt us in His own due time by His grace, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen!
