*THE YOKE OF JESUS CHRIST (1)*
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30.
*Comment:* Yoke literally means a frame placed across the shoulders to carry buckets, pails and so on. It also means a wooden frame joining oxen when pulling a plough, cart and so on. – Numbers19:2; Deuteronomy 21:3; 1 Samuel 6:7.
The natural Jews bore the yoke when they were in slavery in Egypt and captivity in Babylon until God helped them when they cried to Him for help (Leviticus 26:13; Deuteronomy 28:47, 48; Jeremiah 28:13,14). Yoke is used symbolically in the Holy Bible to mean subjection, burden, oppression, and so on. – Acts 15:10; 1 Timothy 6:1.
At the first advent of Jesus Christ on earth, he invited all that were heavy laden with various problems to come unto him for rest. That they should take his (Christ’s) yoke. For his yoke(burden) is easy and light.
To take the Yoke of Christ means that one should be subject to the principles or rules Jesus Christ brought to the world through his teachings and by his way of life. To do so is very easy for those who love God and genuinely love to serve him. John 14:15,21; 1 John 5:3. Yes, the law was given by Moses and it became a burden to the natural Jews, even to the Scribes and Pharisees. But Jesus Christ brought grace and truth. – (John10;17). The life of Jesus Christ on earth was exemplary and he was obedient even unto death. Today, God has highly exalted him that at the name of Jesus all knees should bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus is Lord to God’s glory. Philippians 2:8-10.
*Prayer:* Our God and Father in heaven. We seek Your help for us to continously follow the exemplary life of Jesus Christ for our blessings and Freedom in Jesus name. Amen.
