*BLASPHEMY IS A DANGEROUS SIN!*
“But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Spirit hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation. – Mark 3:29
*Comment:* Saul, before he became St Paul, was an example of one that ignorantly sin and committed blesphemy. He persecuted the church in its early stages. He was the one that kept the clothes of those who stoned St. Stephen to death (Acts 7: 58). But for the fact that he was a predestined servant of God, he was called, justified and glorified (Romans 8:29) and his sins were forgiven him (Psalm 32:2). St. Paul made this confession, “And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry; Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.” – 1 Timothy 1:12-13.
An example of one who wilfully sin and blaspheme the Holy Spirit was Judas Iscariot. Though he was chosen by Jesus Christ to be among the twelve, he was an agent/child of Satan, the devil. It did not take too long for him to show who he was (Psalm 58:3-5). As treasurer, who had the bag, he was a thief (John 12:6). And despite the warnings of Jesus Christ concerning his betrayal by a familiar friend and even identifying him as the one who will betray him as well as pronouncing woe on him, stating that “it had been good for that man if he had not been born”, Judas Iscariot still betrayed him for thirty pieces of silver. Though he later repented, by returning the money, it was “medicine after death”. It was too late. Committing suicide was adding sin to sin. No wonder Jesus Christ referred to him as the “son of perdition.” – Matthew 26:21-25; 27:1-9; John 17:12; etc.
As a Christian, where in these two scenes do you fall, a child of the Kingdom or a son of perdition?
*Prayer:* O God our Father in heaven. I believe I am a child of Thy Kingdom not a son of perdition. Help me to desist from every appearance of sin and do things pleasing in Thy sight always through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
