St. Gideon Meriodere Urhobo, formerly known and called Gregory Mogburuko Ukoli, was the founder and life President of God’s Kingdom Society (GKS). He hailed from Agbarha in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria. He was born in 1903, and had his early education at the then popular Government School, Warri, where he also taught. He was a Staunch Roman Catholic. He later dissociated himself from the Roman Catholic faith because of disagreement over issues of some of their teachings. He joined the then Post and Telegraph department in June 1930, as a third-class Clerk and a Telegraphist, a post he relinquished in 1933 for the sake of the the gospel of Jesus Christ.
In his biography he wrote: “I was in the Government Service, Warri, as a Third-Class Postal Clerk and Telegraphist in June, 1930, when after three and half years diligent and prayerful study of the Holy Bible, Jesus Christ revealed himself to me in a vision and commanded me to go and proclaim the good news of God’s Kingdom (or Gospel of Peace) to all Nations as the only remedy for all human sufferings and woes; to expose all false doctrines which Satan had used to deceive the people and to keep them in ignorance of GOD’S ESTABLISHED KINGDOM or GOVERNMENT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS AND PEACE, and purpose of creation, and to pronounce God’s written judgement against wickedness. I gladly left the government service in Febuary, 1933 and fully devoted all my life to the Kingdom service of the Lord.” “My Mission to the world” was the heading of the lectures he delivered in series which it was said took him to different parts of the country, before he breathed his last on that fateful day on February 25, 1952 while a partial eclipse of the sun occurred. The Daily Times of Saturday, January, 1952 carried his advertisement on page five entitled: “My Mission to the World”.
After 19 years of meritorious services in the Lord’s vineyard, having imparted the sound knowledge of his visions and associates in Christ and accomplished his mission to the world in 1952. One of his close companions and spiritual son was the late Brother Benjamin 0. Tietie. He was the first Archminister of God’s Kingdom Mission. He was one of the vessels that God used to continue the works of St.G.M. Urhobo, leading to the emergence of God’s Kingdom Mission on January 5, 1991.
