“Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:21
Comment: The tendency to readily believe anything one is told can be catastrophic. Eve readily believed the serpent that she would be like God and shall not surely die and she was enticed to look and imagine things about the tree of knowledge of good and evil which led her to violate the law of God in the garden of Eden. (Genesis 3:6; see also Joshua 9:11-27) Yes, King Solomon wrote, “The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going. – Proverbs 14:15.
Many false prophets and Christs ravage the world today with falsehood so Christians must not be gullible or simple to believe their doctrines or stories of deceit “hook, line and sinker”. (Matthew 7:15-21; 2Timothy 4:1-3; 2Peter 2:1-3). Also, around us are hypocrites, “wayo” or deceitful people who tell us various false stories as true. We should be wise and be circumspect not to be entrapped.
In order not to be deceived, the Truth has to be ascertained. “Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.”(John 8:32,36). Just as the Christians at Berea did in the days of St. Paul and Silas by searching the Holy Bible to ascertain the truth to confirm their faith. (Acts 17:10,11; Ephesians 5:8-11; 1 John 4:1) so we must search for the truth in all things before we believe and do anything for us to be safe or secured by God’s grace and power.
Be careful not to allow yourself to be tossed about by every wind of doctrines or stories. – Ephesians 4:14; Hebrews 13:9
Steadfastness to knowing the truth, therefore, is the key to doing good things in life for permanent blessings and Salvation by God’s grace. – Hebrews 3:6; 4:14;10:23; Rev.3:3.
Prayer: Our Father! Our God in heaven. Give us Thy grace, strength and instinct to always find out the truth first and do good things in Thy sight always for blessings thro’ Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
