“Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.” – Matthew 4:8-10
Comment: There are many people today who ignorantly claim to worship the true God. But in reality they are worshipping Satan, the devil. This is because they have been blindfolded by him to falsely worship other gods that did not make the heavens and earth, even images. (Jeremiah 10:6,7,10-11). Joshua exhorted the children of Israel, thus: “Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD. And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” – Joshua 24:14-15
Jesus Christ told the woman of Samaria, “Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship Him. God is a Spirit(person): and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.” – John 4:22-24
St. Paul at Athens noticed as he was passing by Mars Hill an altar with an inscription written, “TO THE UNKNOWN GOD”. So, he expounded to the Athenians that the true God who dwells in heaven and made the earth should be worshipped not as “gold or silver or stone or graven by art and man’s device” but that all men should repent, fear and worship God in Truth because He would soon punish all those who serve such other gods. – Acts 17:24-31; Revelation 14:6,7.
Prayer: O God our heavenly Father. Help us to worship Thee in Spirit and in truth with reverence and godly fear never to serve any other, through Jesus Christ our Lord . Amen.
