BEWARE OF FALSE BRETHREN AND FRIENDS!
“But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.” – 2 Timothy 2:16
*Comment:* St. Paul described false brethren and friends as people whose words or talk are worthless, of no value to ones spiritual, physical and material development or growth in every sphere of life. He said these words will multiply unto ungodliness or evil. He told Timothy further that profane and vain words of false brethren and friends spread like cancer and does no good to anybody. – 2 Timothy 2:17; see also Proverbs 16:28; 17:9
St. Paul gave examples of three men in his time in the Holy Bible who were false brethren. The first two, were “Hymenaeus and Philetus, Who concerning the truth erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some. (2 Timothy 2:18). The third is Alexander the coppersmith who did much evil to St. Paul. He was greatly opposing the words of St. Paul that he was deserted at first but God helped him – 2 Timothy 4:14 -18.
When you find yourself in such situations all you have to do is take on “the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.” – Ephesians 6:16; see Isaiah 26:3,4; etc.
And “Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)” to give us eternal life. – Hebrews 10:22-23; John 2:25.
Beware of false brethren and friends. Read 1 Timothy 1:12, 13.
Prayer: Our Father and our God in heaven, help us to be spiritually sensitive to decerning false brethren and friends an avoid them for our good and peace of mind and deliveranc
